Uherské Hradiště was founded by King Přemysl Otakar II in 1257. The most important events from the more than 750-year history of the town are presented at the Historical Exhibition. It also includes a unique virtual tour that shows the appearance of the town and the life of its inhabitants in 1670.
Art lovers will appreciate seminal paintings by the region’s most famous artist, Joža Uprka. In the gallery bearing his name you will find an extraordinary art collection with more than 130 canvases. If you want to learn more about the local life and traditions, visit the ethnological multimedia exhibition at the Museum of Moravian Slovakia. Other exhibitions and short-term events present Czech and international ethnography, history, archaeology and applied arts.
You can also purchase various traditional folk products at the Slovácké jizba shop and then take a walk through the town along the burgher wine cellars at Mařatice as far as the Rochus Open Air Museum. There you will learn about the Dolňácko ethnographic area and the traditional housing and life of our ancestors. Numerous events take place at the Rochus throughout the year. The town of Uherské hradiště is the venue of the annual Festival of Wine and Open Monuments and the Summer Film School.
